| It is a surfer’s paradise with consistent waves, swells and a long beach break. It lies on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. Malpais borders Cabo Blanco National Park, but it doesn’t have an entrance to the park. The only entrance for the public is in Cabuya, south of Montezuma. It is ideal to swim, dive, snorkel or surf. Activities include horseback riding, sportfishing, canopy tours and nature explorations. This town is a place to relax and to enjoy the kind of tourism many associate Costa Rica with. At the southern end of Malpais there is a small fishermen port. From here you can go on tours by boat around the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula.To get there you can drive on the Interamericana to Puntarenas (120 km) and then take the ferry to Paquera or Naranjo. Alternatevely, you can continue on the Interamericana towards Liberia and turn off at the crossing the Tempisque bridge.
