Tamarindo Bay has become a favourite among surfers and blue water sport fishermen. Warm water surfing year round offers opportunities for surfers of all skill levels. Tamarindo is a small town with a bank, hardware store, real estate agencies, bars, discos and shops. It is ideal for those who want to fish, surf, kayak, dive or snorkel.

In Tamarindo you can enjoy:
Fine dining. There are several restaurants that offer international food. Whether you like to eat vegetarian, traditional Costa Rican, Italian, seafood, etc. you will find it here.
Beautiful souvenir shops and art galleries.
Surfing and water sports.
Nightlife activities.

The beach offers 3.5 km of white sand and warm blue water. Tamarindo is surrounded by national parks to its north and south, and mountains to its east. The sun shines almost everyday, but in the rainy season (May through October) you can expect brief showers in the afternoons. Sunsets are breathtaking.
Swimmers must keep in mind that Playa Tamarindo has strong rip currents and submerged rocks. To the north, there is a estuary that separates Tamarindo from Playa Grande. It is great for canoing and admiring nature. To the south is the beautiful Playa Langosta.

How to get There

By Car:

How to get to the beaches of Tamarindo, Playa Grande, Langosta, Avellan, Conchal, Brasilito, Flamingo, Potrero, Pan de Azúcar.

By the Tempisque River bridge: Take the Interamerican towards the north up to Las Juntas de Abangares. Turn west and follow the signs towards Tempisque river. Look for Santa Cruz passing by Nicoya and keep heading west. You will see the signs that will guide you to the amazing beaches of the area: Tamarindo, Langosta, Parque Marino Las Baulas, Avellana, Ostional, Brasilito, Flamingo, Potreto, Pan de Azúcar, among others. This is a shorter drive that coming through Liberia from San José
