This southern region is known for its natural attractions that are the chosen destination for nature lovers who are also interested in local conservation efforts. You can get there taking a bus at the Coca Cola terminal to Quepos and then to Dominical. If driving, take the Interamerican highway up to San Isidro de General. Once there, take to road towards Dominical. From there you can travel to all the destinations included here.

 

Interesting attractions:

Whale watching: During some time of the year, visitors can experience a unique adventure: whale and dolphin watching. You can take a tour that will take you through pristine waters.
Bird watching: The enormous diversity of the area is also manifested in its birds.

Visiting the stone spheres: Here you can also take a tour back in history, while visiting the Pre-Columbian perfect-shaped spheres that date back to BC 1500.

Hacienda Barú Wildlife Refuge covers 330 hectares with a variety of habitats, ranging from secondary to primary forests. Local people care about conservation and offering visitors truly ecological options. There are 7 km of trails to walk in and admire nature at its best.

Playa Dominical offers visitors 4 km of beach and a year-round pleasant weather, warm during the day, colder at night. Kayaking, diving or snorkeling are some of the activities practiced here. Also, you can travel to nearby beaches such as Hermosa, Escaleras and Dominicalito. It is also a great place to enjoy fresh seafood.

In Nauyaca waterfalls there are two beautiful waterfalls, one of 45 meters and the other of 20 meters. In the latter, there is a 1000 square meter pool with 6-meter depth to enjoy. One of the local specialties is the horseback tour to the waterfalls. Nauyaca is located 10 km from Dominical, on the road to San Isidro de Pérez Zeledón.

The Ballena Marine National Park was created to protect the habitats needed for marine species to lie their eggs and reproduce. It covers an extension of 110 land hectares and more than 5000 marine hectares. One of the most beautiful features is its coral reef. The park has two beautiful beaches with gray sand, Ballena and Bahía.

Ojochal is a small town lies at 2 km from the coastline. Many tourists make it they starting point to visit local attractions. From here you can take a boat tour to the largest mangrove system in Central America.
