Lake Arenal is formed by enlarging an existing small lake of the same name that took place in 1979. It is located near the Arenal Volcano and the Monteverde cloud forest. Lake Arenal is the key driver in a hydroelectric project that currently produces the majority of electricity. Its depth varies between 100 and 200 feet.
Fishermen enjoy catching guapote (rainbow bass). Windsurfing is world-class during the high wind period of December - April.

Venado caves: This natural wonders were formed during the Miocene period, 15 or 20 million years ago.  For many years they were under sea level and due to tectonic movements they surfaced. Local tour agencies offer different tour options here. They are an hour away by car from La Fortuna.
Lake Arenal SK8 Park: great place for adolescents who want to strech their legs. It has 6 and 9 foot bowls and a 10 foot vest ramp. It is located very close to Tilawa Hotel.

Rio Celeste River is located within the Tenorio Volcano National Park, between the counties of Guatuso and Upala (part of Alajuela). Among its main attractions are thermal waters, fumaroles and streams that traverse the forest and lead to Los Teñideros. Getting there implies a 7 kilometer hike (4 hours) through the rainforest.
