This beach is a favorite of many. The qualities that make it so attractive are a mixture of natural beauties and great environment. From Limón, Puerto Viejo is still one hour on the bus.
It has a Jamaican feel to it, with its rasta culture, laid-back atmosphere and reggee. Puerto Viejo is great for surf, relax on the beach, walk around, rent a bike to go to nearby towns, like Cocles, and awake the partying spirit. There are many bars and restaurants that become full of activity at night. Dance lovers will enjoy it.
Here you can find all sorts of affordable lodging and dining options. Cabins are all over the place. If they have kitchen, they are great for saving some on food.
Some of the preferred activities here are renting bikes, wheelers, motorbikes or horses to explore the area. In Puerto Viejo you can also taste Caribbean cuisine, which is very varied and uses a lot of coconut oil.
Two miles from Puerto Viejo you will find Punta Cocles, a great beach that has beautiful coral reefs.
